Herne Bay Pier Report 2004...
In May 2004 PMP completed a full report on the viability of the towns pier and it came out strongly in favour that Herne Bay pier could be that major draw to make the town and it's economy thrive. Those of us who have lived in the town most of or all of our lives will know that the whole of the seafront had bed and breakfasts from the pier to the what now is Wetherspoons at Saxon Shore creating much employment and hotels were busy but when the pier shut so did the B&B's or most of them and hotels disappeared as a result, what a coincidence!!!! Just imagine how much of a knock on effect the pier would have with employment and how much money it would put back into the economy, it would also encourage businesses to set up in and around the Bay and that is a well known fact!! Southport have buck the trend and restored the resorts pier and it is now one of the most popular resorts in the UK well done Sefton Council our hats off to you all and the same applies to one of our local councils Dover District with the refurbishment of Deal pier it attracts well over 600,000 visitors and anglers a year...
PLANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...
Clevedon pier trust celebrated it's 9,000 brass plate last week. They are all over the pier decking, the benches, everywhere and they range from £20 TO £175 each with the messages "in loving memory" of the past, to the present , even TV's Country File had one placed on the pier! Well done to them all. And the pier is very popular with visitors from afar.
Another success story is Sefton Council and Southport pier. Joint-handed in joint support of a pier trust, it gained assistance from National and EU sources. It is now a very popular pier and currently the second longest pier.
Well done to both North Somerset and Sefton Councils for the wonderful job you have done to your local and overseas tourism and local businesses!

Birnbeck pier back in 2005 planned an ice rink for it's pier, could it happen to Herne Bay pier. You could have an ice rink downstairs, rolling skating upstairs even, with another pod 100 metres out to sea and a restaurant/sealife centre/reptile house also sea angling throughout parts of the pier pleasure craft operations/ fast craft it's there for the taking. Ideas a plenty Herne Bay pier is a sleeping giant ready to be woken up, with or without pier trust support. Please check out www.silcock-leisure.co.uk/pier on links.
