NEW PIER MAINTENANCE ISSUES, WHAT MAINTENANCE ISSUES!!!!!
After doing loads of research into marine structure materials one thing is very clear 21 st Century Piers could last for generations, how and why you say.
The new kid on the block where Hardwood decking is concerned is called IPE Nicknamed Ironwood because that's what it is like. Iron it is also extremely fire resistant on par with steel and concrete and also resist to termite mould attack. This wood is the strongest you could hope for. What origin is it, Brazillian how long will it last for on our Pier, at least 100 years.
The other brilliant News is Marine Pile Corrosion is a thing of the past because the lastest technology invented is called Pile Guard or Pile Barrier what the hell is that you ask, well it is a jacket or sleeve that fits around the Marine Pile from the seabed up to just above the high water mark allowing for sea swell on a rough day. So instead of a pile lasting maybe 100 years, there will now last at least 179 years, maybe even longer.
Even the piles under our existing Pier Pavilion once cleaned up a jacket could be fitted to stop any further corrosion taking place. All would save our new pier from any doubts over Maintenance issues and saving hundreds of thousands of pounds per year making it extremely viable.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE OF THE MEDWAY QUEEN PRESEVATION SOCIETY!!! WELL DONE TO THE HERITAGE LOTTERY PEOPLE AND THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO RESTORE THE UK HISTORY...
DEAL PIER BREAKS ALL RECORDS...
BREAKING NEWS... BREAKING NEWS... BREAKING NEWS... BREAKING NEWS...
I have today Learnt that Deal Pier Visitor and Angling numbers have gone through the roof in 2008 they smashed their previous record of well over 600,664 and reached an all important milestone of over 1 million Strollers and Anglers in just one Year, that record is likely to be smashed yet again this year. Not bad for a town with only about 29,000 population. To also mention not bad either for a Pier with just a Cafe at the End. I would like to Thank everyone involved with Deal Pier for all their Help... WELL DONE TO DOVER DISTRICT COUNCIL YOU ARE A CREDIT TO YOUR COMMUNITY AND TOURISM OF THE UK. ALSO THE MONEY YOU SPENT ON YOUR PIER TO MAKE IT ATTRACTIVE.

Well done to Dover District Council and all concerned that work at Deal pier. It is a great achievement to hold Pier of the year and an example to all other Coastal Councils throughout the British Isles. As a member of the Herne Bay Pier Trust and on behalf of the Trust well done to all...
PLANKS FOR THE MEMORIES...
Clevedon pier trust celebrated it's 9,000 brass plate last week. They are all over the pier decking, the benches, everywhere and they range from £20 TO £175 each with the messages "in loving memory" of the past, to the present , even TV's Country File had one placed on the pier! Well done to them all. And the pier is very popular with visitors from afar.
Another success story is Sefton Council and Southport pier. Joint-handed in joint support of a pier trust, it gained assistance from National and EU sources. It is now a very popular pier and currently the second longest pier.
Well done to both North Somerset and Sefton Councils for the wonderful job you have done to your local and overseas tourism and local businesses!
